Preparing For Winter Driving Conditions
PRE-DRIVE CHECKS
As the winter season comes there are several things you can do to make sure you car is prepared. As the temperature drops, the power in your vehicles battery drops as well. It’s a good idea to test your battery at the beginning of each winter season. Next make sure your cooling system is in good working order and that all your fluids are topped off. If you are in a colder part of the state it is even recommended to add wiper fluid that is rated for -30 degrees. This helps get rid of icy windshields and snow build up. Check your wiper blades and replace them if needed.
Another tip to prepare your car for winter is checking your tires pressure and tread. As temperature drops, tire pressure drops drastically. If you are using all-season tires, check the tread on the tires and replace them if they have less than 2/32 of an inch left. In heavy snow or icy areas it’s not a bad idea to invest in winter tires with a deeper, more flexible tread. This helps with grip and prevents the vehicle from sliding as easy.
